Could anyone out there tell me where in the world to find the serial number on my D4? I believe it is an early 1939-1947 version, just after the change from RD4 judging from photos. I think I have turned the machine inside out looking, with no success. Since Cat made so many different versions, it is impossible to get the correct parts manual without it! Thanks!

Hi Stanton,
on the left rear of the Tractor, beneath the seat about 5 or 6 inches is a plate with the info for the chassis. for the engine #, look on the left side of the engine, between the governor and the back of the engine, a few inches below the head. Hope this gets you close. Should be a no. like 5T ##### or some such.
The RD4 (and then D4)was 4G, next was 7J, then 2T, then 5T, if your tractor is indeed an early model.
